MMS - What is it?
By now, your thumbs are probably sore from text messaging, or SMS (short messaging service). In 2003, over 200 billion text messages were sent in China!

MMS (multimedia messaging service) adds color images, animation and sound to your messages. An MMS can, for example, contain a celebrity photo, a branded sports highlight with audio clip or, in the near future, even video ads.
The next phase of mobile marketing?
Marketers in China are proving that SMS can be a cost effective, direct, and personal way to interact with customers. Pioneering SMS campaigns launched by P&G, KFC, and others are being studied around the world for application in other markets.

By adding sound, images and video to mobile messaging, MMS marketing will take a significant piece of advertising spend from traditional media in years to come.

What MMS ad types will appeal to early adopters?
MMS-coupons prompt sales while collecting customer data
photo contests engage customers while building your brand
TV & movie trailers video clips can offer a glimpse of coming flicks
sponsored content brand logos can be added to highlights from F1, Olympics, etc.
As with text messaging, successful MMS campaigns will need to have 100% respect for user privacy while offering something of real value to participants. According to research estimates, MMS usage in China should begin to surpass text messaging by 2006.
